Free Education Center for poor young students
In April 2010 we opened a Free Education Center. The objective is to provide disadvantaged young students with additional education in order to compete on scholarships and in the job market. This way they can be able to help braking the poverty cycle for their families and future generations.
Each term the center have about 200 students taking classes in English, information technology (IT), administrative work and office skills. The students also get offered classes in pedagogy for Kindergarten teaching assistance, computer maintenance and Photoshop.
After graduation many students work as teaching assistants in schools or kindergarden, and some students volunteer at Kuma Primary School. This way they can contribute to their local society and gain valuable work experience.
We receive good feedback from companies that employ graduates from the center. Several graduates has received scholarships from a private university in Phnom Penh. We are also proud to announce that in 2015, 2016 and 2017 we were sending our first students abroad on a scholarship to United World College Red Cross Nordic for IB studies!
In 2015 we merged the education center with the Kuma School as some of the students that has been transferred from Kuma to the local schools are getting half day additional teaching at the education centre.
The opening of the center was made possible with a contribution from the Steensland Fund. We are welcoming new sponsors to keep up the activity and quality to help breaking the poverty cycle for these students and their families!
